Replatforming William Fry: Establishing a Unified Digital Hub for Global Expansion
In May 2022, William Fry LLP, a prestigious law firm with global reach, partnered with Granite to enhance its digital presence. As it approached its 175th anniversary, the firm aimed to upgrade its online presence to reflect its esteemed legacy. As their existing website did not meet industry standards or showcase its commitment to stakeholders, this initiative focused on a holistic online transformation, including a website rebuild, design improvements, digital branding, and ongoing technical support and maintenance.

The Goal

The primary goal of this project was to reinforce William Fry LLP’s digital brand, reflecting its stature as a premier Irish commercial law firm.

This involved revamping and integrating the firm’s existing and graduate websites into a singular, central offering.

The new digital platform aimed to effectively communicate the firm’s strategic purpose, showcase its distinctive qualities, and deliver an enhanced experience for all visitors, thereby serving as an exceptional marketing tool for the firm.

The Challenge

01. Mobile – First Presence:

  • A pivotal project challenge was developing a mobile-first website for William Fry that combines a premium aesthetic with an intuitive interface, ensuring top Google search rankings for its main services. The site needed to excel in usability, accessibility, content, and security across all devices.

02. Advanced Search Capabilities:

  • A critical aspect of the project was adding advanced search functionality, essential for navigating William Fry’s 80 practice areas across various industries, highlighting the project’s focus on sophisticated search integration.

03. Accurate Representation:

  • It was imperative to convey the William Fry’s substantial acumen and historical significance in a way that engages a broad array of stakeholders, ranging from clients and prospects to employees, graduates, and the broader community.

Creative Strategic, Strategically Creative

Our creative strategy was rooted in a deep understanding of William Fry’s heritage and values, established through collaborative workshops.

The project strategy encompassed a comprehensive suite of offerings tailored for the project, including research, design, tech, and UX services.

The delivery process unfolded over 10-11 months, with a carefully orchestrated methodology involving an in-depth discovery phase, strategic planning, site mapping, design phases, content migration, stakeholder workshops, user acceptance testing, continuous communication, and feedback.

Design Rationale

Our design for the William Fry website was guided by the firm’s prestigious heritage and its evolution in the legal sector, aiming to blend tradition with innovation seamlessly.

The design ethos, centered on a user-first philosophy, was developed through collaborative efforts to embody premium quality.

This approach resulted in a visually appealing site that communicates elite status, trustworthiness, and heritage through a consistent color scheme, imagery, and distinctive design elements like the animated red fractal hamburger menu.

Carefully chosen hues of red and a dark theme across site photography, along with harmonized personnel photos, underscore the site’s premium, custom feel.

innovation & Development

The project embraced innovative practices such as a composable approach, content engineering, content grouping, and tree testing navigation.
